The Sacrament of Confirmation may be received by those students who are at least 16 years of age, and who have been involved in either a Catholic high school religion program or parish religious education program for the previous two years, along with attending a retreat during those years, as well.
For Catholics, the Sacrament of Confirmation represents (1) the full initiation of the recipient into the Catholic Church, (2) the strengthening of the work of the Holy Spirit which began at Baptism, (3) a personal decision of the recipient to commit to follow Christ and the precepts of the Catholic Church, and (4) to make a commitment to serve the parish and greater Church. Confirmation is an initiation, not a graduation. As the word “initiation” implies, celebration of this Sacrament is just the beginning, the start of one’s own faith journey as a young adult.
